Hunnypot Saison is our love letter to Ocean Beach, San Diego—a bright, rustic saison brewed with local honey and fresh lemons donated and gathered by our neighbors right here in OB. This beer is truly community-powered, from backyard lemon trees to the glass in your hand.
After fermentation, Hunnypot Saison was aged for nearly two years in a blend of Cutwater Gin barrels and mead barrels from Lost Cause Meadery, adding layers of complexity and depth. The extended barrel aging brings soft botanical notes from the gin barrel, gentle oak character, and a subtle honeyed richness from the mead barrel—all while letting the saison base remain dry, expressive, and refreshing.
We set out to create a honey saison / lemon saison that captures the laid-back, sun-soaked vibe of Ocean Beach. The result is a nuanced farmhouse ale with floral honey aromatics, bright citrus zest, light botanical complexity, and a crisp, effervescent finish. The lemon lifts the beer with a clean snap of acidity, while the honey and barrels round everything out beautifully.
What makes Hunnypot Saison truly special isn’t just the flavor—it’s the people. Every lemon used in this beer was hand-picked or donated by Ocean Beach locals, making this a genuinely hyper-local collaboration between California Wild Ales and our community. It’s OB in liquid form.
