Join Us in Keeping Ocean Beach Clean and Celebrating David Hendon

Trashy beaches don’t necessarily come to mind while you’re thinking about the fine weather in the forecast for the first weekend of summer, but the trash is there!

We’re doing our part to combat the problem.

At beaches all around Ocean Beach, the big picture is scenic — breathtaking really. But upon close inspection, trash, beer cans, and plastics are found.

That’s why we’re rolling out an incentivized plan to help get the community and tourists involved in actively helping to keep the beach clean. We’ll be supplying customers with beach buckets to take with them on their next outing. When the bucket is filled up and returned, you get a beer for a penny (because we can’t legally give away free beer)!

Celebrate the Life of David Hendon

Please join us in celebrating the life of David Hendon. David, a beloved member of the Ocean Beach community known for his generosity, who tragically lost his life in a car accident over Memorial Day weekend. His roommate and friend, Marc Gervais, was also seriously injured and suffered a heart attack during the incident.

Helo Clean Up our Beach

We have partnered with Submerge Church and Love Thy Neighborhood to ensure this initiative has a positive impact. We invite you to come together to honor David’s memory and raise funds for Marc’s recovery. The celebration will be held this Saturday, July 27th, at 12 PM at Wild Ales.

Feel free to invite a friend to wait for you while you’re in class. Enjoy dinner together before the class, and they can relax with a pint while you bake.

  • Comfort: Some portions of the class will require standing. Please wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes. Non-slip footwear is mandatory in the brewery. Sandals and flip-flops are not permitted.

Summer in California is synonymous with sunshine, beaches, and, of course, chili cookoffs. And this year, the excitement is palpable as we gear up to defend our title at the 44th Annual Ocean Beach Street Fair and Chili Cookoff on Sunday, June 22nd.

Last year, our team at California Wild Ales stole the show with our exceptional chili, crafted by none other than our talented Monica DeWitt. Her gold medal-winning recipe not only impressed the judges but also won the hearts (and taste buds) of everyone in attendance, securing the coveted People’s Choice Award.

As we gear up for this year’s cookoff, anticipation is running high. We’re excited to showcase our culinary prowess once again and defend our title against a slew of worthy competitors. With Monica DeWitt leading the charge, there’s no doubt that we’ll bring our A-game to the table.

What sets us apart from the competition is not just our dedication to brewing exceptional beers but also our commitment to creating unforgettable culinary experiences. Our chili is a testament to this ethos, combining bold flavors and fresh, locally sourced ingredients to create a dish that is as delicious as it is unique. And this year, we’re revealing the secret ingredient that makes our chili truly special: our very own Bike Lane Lager. This signature brew adds a rich, malty depth to the chili, elevating it to award-winning status.

In a testament to community spirit and historical legacy, the OB Woman’s Club, California Wild Ales, and the OB Brewery are thrilled to announce the launch of “Making Waves Blonde.” This special release commemorates the centennial anniversary of the OB Woman’s Club and will be available starting June 21, 2024, coinciding with the Summer Solstice.

“Making Waves Blonde” serves as a tribute to 100 years of empowering women and fostering community engagement. Crafted with Centennial hops, this limited-edition blonde ale will be brewed in a small batch of just 20 kegs. The collaboration aims to shine a light on the rich history and ongoing contributions of the OB Woman’s Club since its inception in 1924.

“We are excited to partner with OB Brewery and the OB Woman’s Club for this historic beer,” expressed Bill DeWitt, Founder of California Wild Ales. “The ‘Making Waves Blonde’ isn’t just a beer; it’s a celebration of a century of community impact. As a father of three little girls, I’m driven to ensure they grow up in a world where their voices are not only heard but celebrated, shaping a future where gender equality is the norm, not the exception.”

A noteworthy aspect of this collaboration is the philanthropic element. 15.02% of the proceeds from “Making Waves Blonde” will be donated to the Woman’s Club Philanthropy and Social Justice Committee, further supporting their endeavors to make a positive difference in the community.

Celebrating 100 Years of Empowering Women

The official launch of “Making Waves Blonde” will take place at a special event on June 21, 2024, at OB Brewery’s rooftop. Scheduled to commence at sunset, around 8:00 PM, the event promises a picturesque backdrop for this momentous occasion.

Kicking off the musical extravaganza are the talented performers of the Tecolote Canyon Band (2pm), followed by the infectious energy of Animal Control (5pm), ensuring a lively ambiance throughout the day.

Adding flavor to the festivities, we teamed up with neighboring eatery Dirty Birds Wings to offer a delectable array of wings to accompany their renowned brews. From classic flavors to innovative combinations, there’s something to tantalize every taste bud.
